Men’s competition: last year’s winner against the world’s best

The men’s field includes last year’s winner, our own Jan Štefela, who cleared the coveted 230 cm mark here last year. The Paris Olympic finalist is currently ranked 11th in the world. A strong rival will be Germany’s Tobias Potye, third at last year’s Beskydská laťka, who cleared 227 cm last year and only just missed 230 cm. He did clear that height last year at the Banská Bystrica meeting, and his personal best stands at 234 cm. Three jumpers are coming all the way from Japan: world no. 9 Ryoichi Akamatsu with a best of 231 cm, Tomohiro Shinno with a personal best of 231 cm, and the returning Takashi Eto.
